Shortlisted for a Wave Award, in two categories? Don’t mind if we do.

Viking and Saga ships in port

Portsmouth International Port is proud to have been nominated for not just one, but two awards, Best Environmental Innovation and also Best Port, in the cruise industry Wave awards which celebrate the best in the sector.

We have fantastic projects underway to help us achieve our aim to become carbon-net-neutral by 2030 and emissions free by 2050.

Through being a living laboratory we are pioneering environmental solutions, such as biofuel and hydrogen prototypes. Our investment in renewable energy sources has seen over 2600 solar panels installed across our site, making us the first UK port with solar canopies and we’ve already benefitted from being able to run operations entirely self-sufficiently and without relying on extra capacity from the grid.

Due to open in August the port’s brand new terminal extension, supported by Levelling Up Funding, is not only a striking design that will allow to cater for thousands more passengers, it is also run environmentally through innovative seawater heating and cooling systems.

Andrew Williamson, Portsmouth International Port’s passenger operations manager said: “We’re delighted that the hard work from everyone at the port and our partners who support us has been recognised by being shortlisted for two industry awards.

“Our environmental goal runs through everything we do and we’re proud to demonstrate the scale of our efforts, which include working with partners across the council, university and maritime industries. We’re growing year on year, whether that’s innovative projects or the number of passengers using the port, 2023 is certainly a busy one but it’s a great position to be in.”
