Reaction to EU trade deal

Mike Sellers Portsmouth International Port’s director said: “After such a prolonged period of uncertainty for everyone from the pandemic to Brexit negotiations, it is a welcome relief there is an agreement with the EU on how we’ll work together.

“Of course there will be a lot of information to interrogate and understand, but it’s a step in the right direction for businesses who rely on cross-channel trade.

“What we do know is infrastructure needs to be in place, and with a funding shortfall to meet these requirements I’m thankful we’re supported by our MPs and the council to find a way forward. So I expect next year to be busy and fast paced so we’re in the best possible position to support efficient UK trade.

“It goes without saying the past year has been tougher than most, but as we leave 2020 behind we do so with a plan for the future.”
