Quality standards pioneer takes top award

The man who led a quality standards revolution at Portsmouth International Port has been named Quality Professional of the Year at the 2017 CQI International Quality Awards.
John Feltham was judged to be the world’s most proficient practitioner of quality management. It follows the implementation of new ISO 9001:2015 standards at Portsmouth International Port, more than 20 months ahead of a deadline to do so.
The awards ceremony was held in the City of London and John, who is Portsmouth International Port’s Quality Manager, was one of three finalists nominated to be Quality Professional of the Year by the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI). The CQI is a global professional body advancing the practice of quality management in all sectors.
Mike Sellers, Port Director at Portsmouth International Port said, “John really deserves this award and the high level of industry recognition that comes with it. His hard work benefits everyone at the port, from our staff through to operators and, of course, our passengers.”
John’s hard work means the Port’s systems run smoothly, and he’s delighted to have won the award. Speaking after the ceremony John said “It is great that our determination to be one of the first with ISO 9001:2015 has been recognised on a global level. To be named Quality Professional of the Year against such strong competition is quite breathtaking.”
International quality standard ISO 9001:2015 is designed for companies of all shapes and sizes. Recipients of the certification need to demonstrate an ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer needs and the applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
Portsmouth International Port is also approved for four other International Standards. These include Health and Safety.
