Mike Sellers, Portsmouth International Port’s director: “We welcome the announcement of the government’s Clean Maritime 2050 plan and are confident we’re in a leading position to become the UK’s first zero emissions port.
“Next year we look forward to Brittany Ferries’ Honfleur, the first passenger ship in the world to be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). She will be joined by a further two environmentally-friendly ships into the fleet.
“Shipping is a historic industry but it’s also one of the most innovative. Sustainability is a serious issue for ports and we’re determined to play a significant part in making sure Portsmouth continues to offers an environmentally sound facility and infrastructure, for both our customers and the local community.
“As an industry we are part of the solution, rather than the issue when it comes to sustainable transport.
“We already have one of the most environmentally efficient terminals in the UK and we’re prepared to invest when it comes to sustainable developments, and we’re pleased that our customers share our ambitions too.”
