Community open day 2023 – Visitor information

Port building from the air

Below is some information to help you plan your day and make the most of your visit to our open day on 7 October 2023.

Identification

Adults need to bring some form of ID, ideally a driving license or passport. However, other forms of ID will be accepted, such as a bank card, to prove your identity.

Getting here

Visitors to the open day are asked to walk, cycle, use public transport, a Beryl Bike or a Voi e-scooter to reach the port if possible.

If you are travelling by car, parking is available at the park and ride, just off of the M275 which is a 5 minute bus ride from the port. Southbound, you can get off at the Rudmore roundabout bus stop and use the pedestrian crossing and underpass to walk over to the port. When leaving, please embark at the Mile End Road/International Port northbound.

We also have an onsite multi-storey car park, however parking is limited at this site. Just follow the yellow signs when you arrive. Please note we can not ensure availability on the day, so we strongly advise using the park and ride.

Disabled parking is available in the coach lanes opposite the terminal.

Once at the port, head to the terminal and then up the stairs at the back. There will be face painters located in our sky garden, and a live Lego demonstration on the mezzanine floor. Drinks and food are available at the port’s cafe, Ceanos.

You can then head through to check in the new terminal extension, where you will check-in and pass through security. You’ll then head down to the exhibition hall, and on to the buses to the quayside where there will be ships, equipment from Portico and also an ice cream caravan. On your return, you can either go round the exhibition again, or exit back to the terminal and visit the cafe, Lego demonstration or face painters again.

Raffle prizes

Our security contractor, Carlisle, have provided some amazing raffle prizes including exclusive tours of Westminster Abbey and tickets for a home game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Portsmouth Football Club have also offered up a signed shirt and match tickets as prizes! Please see the charities Stella Maris, The Fishermen’s Mission and RNLI in the exhibition hall to enter and be in with a chance of winning!

Timings

The port will be open from 10am – 4pm and you are welcome to stay for as long as you like. There will be exhibitors for you to chat to before boarding regular buses down to the quayside to access ships and machinery.

Free harbour tours will be operating every half hour and take approximately 15 minutes.

There will also be the arrival of Brittany Ferries Mont St Michel at 1315, and departure at 1445 which can be seen up close.

Flat, sensible shoes are advised.
